Potted Garden Care in June

Are your water bill higher than
normal?
-
Walk and observe your
irrigation line while it is
running.
-
Let the water run for a
while to be able to check
for pooling areas.
-
Listen for sounds of
bubbling water.
Are your plants stressing or dying?
-
Check your irrigation settings
for both duration and frequency.
-
Potted plants may be getting too
much sun and should be moved to
a shadier location.
I have already seen mosquitoes. Be
sure you have no standing water
around your home.
Rose Care
Mulch
-
Add 3 - 4 inches if you have not
already done so. Remember to remove
old mulch first.
Summer Pest - Spider Mites
Look for - dead and falling
leaves; webs and/or a salt and
pepper appearance on the underside
of leaves.
Treatment
- use a miticide or blast the rose
bushes with a strong water spray
every tow to three days.
Summer Plant Health
- Healthy Rose bushes are more
resistant to common problems

Water early in the morning

Water deeply

Apply a half strength liquid
fertilizer once a month

Greetings!
As I write this, the
temperatures are surging
over 100 degrees for the
first time this year... a
rare occurrence in the Old
Pueblo. I do believe this
was the best May weather I
have experienced since
moving to Tucson from NY in 1996. It makes me want to
slow down and take time
enjoy the beauty of our
weather and not let the news
of the world get in my way!
