Greetings!
This
time of year presents us with quite the conundrum. With
temperatures still in the 87 - 95+ range it still is a
little too early to plant winter flowers with any success
and yet you will find local nurseries overflowing with
them! I'm sure you are tired of your summer flowers (and
they for sure are tired themselves), but to save you the
agony of losing new plants before their time, please wait,
wait, wait!!!
The
ideal time for planting winter plants (both flowering
plants and vegetables) is when the night time temperatures
continue in the low 60's or even the 50's,especially for
delicate plants like Pansies and Violas. We want your
winter flowers to last at least until next May which is 6
- 7 months. Trying to get any more out of them is asking a
lot! If you absolutely cannot wait, start with heartier
plants like Snap Dragons and Petunias. We like to think of
them as 'shoulder plants' that can help us cross over
seasons.
As
we approach these cooler evenings which are coming soon I
promise, we've begun to schedule re-pottings for our
clients but we do have a few openings left if you would
like to get on our list. Give us a call or shoot me an
email and we will provide you with a potted garden that is
absolute instant gratification!!
Here's to a spectacular fall and plenty of Oktoberfest
activities!!!
